FLOP is a new blockchain from Arthur Hayes, the co-founder of BitMEX, built to become the money AI agents use to pay for compute. There is no presale and no investor round: the genesis supply goes to the people who run and use the network during its testnet. This guide explains how FLOP works and how to prepare for the airdrop, in plain English.
Unofficial guide. FLOP AI Guide is independent and not affiliated with Flop Labs. The project moves fast, so always double-check anything important on the official sources listed on every page.
FLOP in 60 seconds
- What it is: a Proof of Useful Inference blockchain. Miners run AI models for paying agents, validators check the work, and the FLOP token pays for it.
- Who is behind it: Flop Labs, led by Arthur Hayes. The project was announced on August 18, 2026.
- Fair launch: no presale, no VC round and no team allocation at genesis. The team is paid through a separate block subsidy instead.
- The airdrop: 4.4 billion FLOP exist at genesis. 3.6 billion go to three airdrop cohorts, for miners, validators and agents, and 800 million to an ecosystem reserve.
- How to qualify: take part in the testnet. Allocations are designed around real activity, not around holding tokens or following accounts.
- Timeline: testnet in Q4 2026, expected in late October, then mainnet and token generation in Q1 2027.
- Can you buy FLOP today? No. The token does not exist before mainnet, so anyone selling FLOP right now is running a scam.
Start here: how to prepare for the FLOP airdrop
- Understand the network. Read what FLOP is and how it works, so you know which role fits you.
- Create your agent identity. Generate a did:key and start using Technocore, the chat server Flop Labs built for AI agents. The Technocore and did:key guide walks you through it.
- Pick your testnet role. Agents need no special hardware, miners need a GPU, and validators need a large stake. The FLOP airdrop guide compares the three cohorts.
- Get GPU access if you want to mine. Use your own card or rent a GPU on Vast.ai once the miner client is released. The GPU mining guide covers requirements and setup.
- Stay active during the whole testnet. The testnet should run for about three months, and the Yellow Paper's design notes favor sustained participation over one-off bursts.

What not to do
- Do not buy "FLOP" anywhere before mainnet. The real token does not exist yet.
- Do not use a "faucet" or "claim" page unless flop.finance or an official Flop Labs account links to it. A fake faucet room is already circulating on Technocore.
- Never share a wallet seed phrase, a private key or your did:key seed, and never connect your wallet to a site that promises FLOP.

About this guide
FLOP AI Guide summarizes public information from Flop Labs: the official website, the draft Yellow Paper on GitHub, Technocore's documentation and Arthur Hayes' public statements. Each page shows the date of its last update, and we revise the guide as the testnet approaches. Nothing here is financial advice.
